Five Mile Wood By Stanley

Stanley is a beautiful area of Scotland, located just 10 miles from Burmieston, and is home to Five Mile Wood. Five Mile Wood is a must-visit destination for visitors to Perthshire and beyond. The beautiful woodland area covers 135 hectares and has so much to explore and see. Five Mile Wood is a great location in Scotland for a nature walk or cycling adventure with the family.

Visiting Five Mile Wood

Five Mile Wood is a great day out for all ages, and we recommend you give yourself a good few hours in the area. Located on the outskirts of Stanley, the woods can be reached by car. There is a small car park at the entrance that is free to use during your visit. Walking around Five Mile Wood is leisurely and suits all abilities, or you can choose to cycle the area if you prefer.

Five Mile Wood And WSWG Events

The West Stormont Woodland Group (WSWG) is a local community association that works hard to bring Five Mile Wood and neighbouring Taymount Wood into community ownership. Their aim is to provide the picturesque and much-loved area with a long term and sustainable future as part of the wider community.

The name West Stormont comes from the medieval times, where the area covered Kinclaven, Auchtergaven, Moneydie, Logiealmond, Murthly and Redgorton which is now commonly known as Stanley. All these communities are connected to Five Mile Wood and Taymount Wood, making them part of the local area.

The WSWG run various events and days out in the woodland areas, in a bid to get locals and visitors involved in their project. Previous events included Summer days such as Gazebo Sundays and Connecting With Nature. Connecting With Nature was an event held with Herbalist Leila Mayne, where visitors could take a meditative walk to connect with the spirit of the woodland, the plants and the animals.

Later in the year, other events such as the Minibus Picnic Lunch, Party In The Park and Cycling Without Age took place. The group arrange various events in Five Mile Wood throughout the year, and they are a great way to truly experience everything the area has to offer.
